  • EMDR Therapy | Bondi Junction | Dina Allami Psychology

EMDR therapy in Bondi Junction for trauma, anxiety, depression, and more. Supporting children, adolescents, and adults with tailored, evidence-based care. Start your journey towards healing today. EMDR THERAPY Children & Adults EMDR THERAPY Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps people recover from emotional pain, stressful experiences, and trauma. While it’s well known for helping trauma survivors, EMDR is not only for people who’ve experienced war, abuse, or disasters. In the world of psychology and trauma research today, trauma is better understood as anything that overwhelms your ability to cope at the time. This could include things like bullying, being shamed, a medical procedure, the loss of a loved one, emotional neglect, a breakup or difficult childhood experiences. These events can leave lasting emotional imprints, especially when the brain doesn't have the opportunity to fully process them. If you’ve ever said, “I don’t know why this still affects me ,” or felt stuck in patterns you can’t explain, EMDR may help. How EMDR Works When something overwhelming happens, your brain can’t always process it in the usual way. Instead of storing the experience like a typical memory, it gets “stuck” — often with vivid images, strong emotions, body sensations, and negative beliefs. Later, certain triggers can bring back those same intense feelings, like it’s happening all over again. Sometimes, these “stuck” memories are clear. Other times, they’re buried or only felt in the body — showing up as anxiety, tension, low self-worth, or emotional outbursts. Either way, they can impact your wellbeing and relationships in ways that feel hard to explain. EMDR helps your brain reprocess those memories. During a session, you briefly bring a distressing memory to mind while simultaneously engaging in a guided task, such as following eye movements or another activity. This places a small demand on your working memory, which makes the memory feel less vivid and emotionally intense, allowing your brain to reprocess and store it in a healthier, more manageable way. After reprocessing, the memory becomes more like any other — less vivid, more distant, and without the emotional charge or physical discomfort. You’ll still remember what happened, but it no longer feels like you're reliving it. What Can EMDR Help With EMDR can help both children and adults . It's well-known for treating trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) , but it’s also been effective for many other concerns, including anxiety , panic attacks , depression , phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) , dissociative disorders , personality disorders , addictions , chronic pain , sleep problems , grief and loss , low self-esteem , trust issues , relationship difficulties , unresolved emotional wounds from earlier in life and more. How EMDR is Different Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require you to talk in detail about the experience. Instead of focusing on changing thoughts or behaviours, EMDR works with the brain’s natural ability to heal by resolving unprocessed memories at their source. Many people find meaningful relief in fewer sessions compared to other therapies. Contact me HOW EMDR WORKS?

  • Psychologist in Bondi Junction | Dina Allami Psychology

Experienced Psychologist and EMDR Therapist in Bondi Junction providing evidence-based therapy for children, adolescents and adults. Specialising in trauma, dissociation, anxiety, depression and OCD. ABOUT ME I started my career working in NGO mental health settings before moving into private practice. I work with children, adolescents , and adults , and I adapt my approach depending on the developmental stage and needs of each person I see. Over the years, my work has naturally become centred around trauma - not only because of its complexity, but because of how often it is misunderstood or goes unseen. I was drawn particularly to EMDR Therapy because it offers a way of working that goes beyond talking about what happened and instead supports the system to process what has been held for too long. EMDR sits at the core of how I work. I use it as a way of supporting the brain and body to do what they are already trying to do: move toward resolution when there is enough safety in place. Alongside EMDR, I draw on parts work , somatic approaches, Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and other evidence-based therapies to develop treatment plans that are tailored to each individual's needs. A large part of my work and clinical interest is with complex trauma, PTSD, dissociation, and dissociative presentations, including Dissociative Identity Disorder. These are among the many presentations I work with, which are outlined further on my services page . My training and ongoing development have been shaped by international clinicians and experts in the field, and I remain committed to ongoing learning and engagement with current research. I co-founded The Healix Centre because I wanted to create a space built specifically around trauma work, rather than one that simply incorporates it. It is an EMDR-focused group practice, grounded in a shared commitment to depth, safety, and thoughtful care. At the centre of my work is a simple idea: much of healing is about creating enough safety for what has been shut down, overwhelmed, or fragmented to slowly come back into connection.

For more information about child and adolescent therapy, click here. PARTS WORK AND EMDR THERAPY A parts-based approach is based on the idea that we all have different sides or "parts" of ourselves that develop through our life experiences, particularly those that have been difficult or overwhelming. For example, you might notice a part that tries to keep everyone happy, a part that is highly self-critical, a part that becomes angry to protect you, or a part that carries deep hurt or sadness. These parts usually develop for good reasons and are often trying to protect us, even when they create difficulties in our lives today. Understanding these parts can help make sense of why we think, feel, react, and relate to others in certain ways. Rather than fighting against these parts, we learn to understand them with curiosity and compassion. When combined with EMDR therapy, this approach helps create a greater sense of safety before processing difficult memories. It allows the parts carrying pain, fear, or protective roles to feel understood and supported, making it easier to process difficult memories without becoming overwhelmed. The result is greater self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, less inner conflict, and a stronger, more connected sense of self. This approach aims to create meaningful, lasting change by addressing the underlying patterns that keep people feeling stuck. Because this approach addresses the underlying processes that contribute to many mental health difficulties, it can be helpful for a wide range of concerns, including PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, low self-worth, difficulties with emotional regulation and relationships, and other long-standing patterns that no longer serve you. • Children & Adolescents | Dina Allami Psychology

Child psychologist in Bondi Junction supporting children and adolescents with anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioural challenges, and more, through personalised therapy. Children and Adolescents Helping your child make sense of their emotions, experiences and the world around them. Children and Adolescents Psychology When your child is struggling, it can be difficult to know what to do or how best to support them. You may have noticed changes in their mood, behaviour, confidence, relationships, or the way they are coping with everyday life. You might be wondering whether it is something they will grow out of, or whether they need some extra support. You don't have to navigate this alone. Every child is different. I take the time to understand your child's unique personality, experiences, strengths, relationships and the factors that may be contributing to their struggles. Therapy is tailored to your child's developmental stage, individual needs and goals, while also recognising the important role parents and caregivers play in supporting their wellbeing. Looking beyond behaviours to understand your child’s story Every child communicates differently, and behaviours can often be a way of expressing emotions, experiences or needs that they may not yet have the words to explain. Rather than focusing only on the behaviour itself, I take the time to understand what may be happening beneath the surface and what your child may be trying to communicate. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of the process. Some children find it easy to talk, while others may communicate through creativity, activities, play, or through taking time to build trust. I adapt my approach to each child and work at a pace that feels comfortable for them. My goal is to help children better understand their emotions, develop healthier ways of coping, build confidence, and feel more connected to themselves and the people around them. Evidence-based approaches I use a range of evidence-based approaches depending on your child's needs, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, EMDR Therapy, parts work approaches, Exposure and Response Prevention and other therapeutic modalities. For children and adolescents who have experienced trauma or overwhelming life experiences, I have particular experience supporting them to process these experiences in a way that feels safe and manageable. EMDR therapy may be considered where appropriate and when your child has developed the necessary skills and sense of safety to engage in this type of work. Working together with parents Parents are an important part of a child's therapeutic journey. Depending on your child's age and needs, I work collaboratively with parents by providing guidance, helping you understand what may be happening beneath your child's behaviour, and sharing practical strategies to support emotional regulation and connection at home. The aim is not only to support your child during sessions, but to help create lasting changes in everyday life. I can support children and adolescents experiencing: Anxiety and excessive worrying Social anxiety Difficulties with friendships Depression and low mood Trauma and PTSD Phobias Emotional regulation difficulties Low self-esteem and confidence OCD and intrusive thoughts Panic attacks Self-harm and emotional distress Separation anxiety School-related stress and difficulties Grief and significant life changes Relationship difficulties Difficult experiences that continue to impact their wellbeing Taking the first step Reaching out for support for your child can feel like a big decision. Many parents come feeling unsure about whether therapy is the right step or how their child will respond. My aim is to make the process as comfortable as possible for both you and your child. If you would like to discuss whether therapy may be helpful for your child, please get in touch. New Client Enquiry Behind every behaviour is a feeling. And behind every feeling is a need.
